Deleting Your Data

This page explains how to delete your Veldi account (app ID app.veldi, operated by Smalausnir ehf., Reykjavik, Iceland), what happens to your data when you do, and the limited records we are required by law to keep.

You do not need to install the app or sign in to request deletion — the email route below is open to anyone.

1. How to Delete Your Account

Option A — In the app

• Open Veldi and sign in.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Delete account.
• Confirm when prompted.

Your account and the data listed below are erased immediately, and you are signed out. This cannot be undone.

Option B — By email

If you cannot access the app, email support@veldi.app from the address registered to your account, with the subject Account deletion request.

We may ask you to confirm ownership of the account before proceeding. We complete verified requests within 30 days, as required by GDPR Article 12(3).

2. What Is Deleted

Deleting your account permanently erases the personal data you stored with Veldi:

• Account and login — your sign-in identity, email address and password (or linked Google/Apple sign-in).
• Profile — your name, preferred currency, language and display settings.
• Assets — every asset you added, including names, descriptions, addresses, registration numbers, values, purchase dates and photos.
• Financial records — loans, lenders, balances, interest rates, insurance policies and policy numbers, income and recurring costs.
• Maintenance data — schedules, service history and reminders.
• Documents — every file you uploaded, such as receipts, contracts, warranties and manuals.

This is deleted from our live systems straight away. Backup copies that may still contain it are purged within 90 days.

3. What Is Retained, and Why

Two things survive account deletion. Neither contains the asset, financial or document data you stored in the app.

Accounting records

Where you have been billed by us, we are legally obliged to retain the accounting record of the transaction — invoices issued to you, payments made and received, and the billing details attached to them, such as your name and the amounts involved.

We keep these for seven (7) years from the end of the financial year in question, as required by the Icelandic Bookkeeping Act (Act No. 145/1994). We cannot delete them on request: GDPR Article 17(3)(b) expressly excludes the right to erasure where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

These records are used only to satisfy accounting and tax law. They are not used to contact you, profile you, or restore your account.

A record that the account was deleted

We retain an internal marker showing that the account identifier was deleted. It holds no personal data about you and exists solely to prevent a deleted account being silently recreated by a sign-in session issued before the deletion.

4. If You Have No Billing History

If you were never billed — for example, you only ever used a free account — there is no accounting record to keep, and deletion removes everything we hold about you apart from the deletion marker described above.

5. Deleting Individual Items Without Closing Your Account

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove data. Everything you add to Veldi can be deleted individually from within the app, at any time:

• Assets — any house, vehicle, boat or other item, along with its photos.
• Financial records — individual loans, insurance policies, income entries and recurring costs.
• Maintenance records — individual schedules and service history entries.
• Documents — any receipt, contract, warranty or manual you uploaded.

Deleting an item removes it from our systems permanently, and backups containing it are purged within 90 days. If you would rather we removed specific data for you, email support@veldi.app describing what you want deleted, and we will action it within 30 days.
